Mt. Sneffels Skyline Storm

Late one afternoon, I was out hunting for a painting location, when the sky darkened and there was a sky I just couldn't pass up for a painting. Before I could paint the sky, though, I sketched the mountain skyline from a location not far from our house. I sketched the foreground from a different location near our yurt. I painted the sky from my recollections and on subsequent days I tackled the foreground, which I painted largely from imagination based on watching the light patterns in the canyon on our property. Overall, this view is looking south from near our yurt, and was painted entirely outside.
